14. Landscapes: Urban And Rural

This drawing of a rural path is done using an impressionistic technique, through which the colours are used to show the different objects in the scene, this is because of complexity of the drawing and the amount of detail which would make it very confusing for the viewer.
This drawing has a good vantage point which shows that it was planned out, there are various examples of foreshortening, such as the railing and the wall to the right. This shows good perspective.
The shading technique used is effective for this drawing as it contains a lot of trees and leaves which can’t all be drawn, so using this technique helps to let the viewer's imagination fill in the detail. The horizon line is roughly about the centre of the drawing where the path disappears from view and only trees can be seen above it. The focal point of this drawing is the railing as it has the darkest shading and most varied colours surrounding it, other areas of interest are the wall to the right and the left clearing which is letting light through the trees causing everything to be yellow in colour.

The contours of the shading show the anatomy of the head and how the model’s cheek muscles are being used to make the mouth smile, it also shows the areas where the skin bends and curves around muscles making it very realistic. The highlights and shading show that the light source was from above to the right this works well with this facial expression and adds a more intense effect on the viewer.

10. Facial Anatomy: Portraiture

This drawing shows good planning of the model, it is done using just white chalk on a dark blue/navy paper, this works really well to show off the highlights and uses the paper to show off the shadows. There is a good sense of depth in the drawing as you can see clearly see where the angles start and where the shape ends through shading, this works really well to give the drawing realism and appeals to the viewer.
The highlights on the face show that the model has a very sad expression on her face which is emphasised by the eyes that are drooping down, but also the forehead and how the skin wrinkles. The anatomical features of the drawing are correct and were clearly planned on the page before detail was added, this captures the likeliness of the model.

9. Tone And Colour In Skin

This tonal drawing of a model has very good proportions of the body. This drawing has taken aboard improvements suggested in that the model is now sitting on a table where before it wasn’t drawn in this really helps frame the drawing and more appealing to the viewer.
The shading in this drawing of various different crayon colours has been blended well together to give a good sense of depth, as clearly seen on the side and hips where the flesh curves and drops down due to fatty deposits.
The highlights and shadows show that there was more than 1 light source, from the front and the back. The shading that follows the contours of the neck really makes it look natural and realistic it also gives the neck the depth due to the muscles. The shadows created at the back of the arm and the hips are really good and show good proportions and sense of depth.

8. Gravity And Drapery

This drawing of a model in clothing has very good proportions this has helped make the clothing more realistic and accurate. The shading of the contours helps give you a good sense of where the clothing was loose and hanging and where it was tight and resting on top of flesh.
There is a good sense of gravity and momentum in this drawing in that the clothing of the model is hanging down but not moving as the model is sat down in a relaxed position. There is also a good sense of depth as you can tell which areas are in front of others such as arms being tucked in between the legs.
An improvement for this drawing would be to include the seat that the model is resting on rather than making it look like she is sitting on this air, this would really help bring the drawing together and add depth.
